What is TED?
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, presented usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference focused on Technology, Entertainment and Design. Today TED has grown into a world-wide phenomenon that has people talking – in more than 100 languages – about innovative ideas across multiple disciplines. More than 1,800 TED presentations logging hundreds of millions of views are available at ted.com.
What is TEDx?
Independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world. The TEDx Program is designed to help communities, organizations and individuals ignite conversations and connections through TED-like experiences. A TEDx event is a local,
self-organized event where live TED-like talks and previously recorded talks from TED.com are shared with the community.
TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis, by local non-profit organizing committees who operate under a license granted by TED.
TEDxLehighRiver gives voice to Ideas Worth Spreading that inspire expansive thinking in our community.
It's a platform and a voice for the biggest and brightest ideas in the Lehigh Valley...where thinkers come to play.
TEDxLehighRiver was conceived in 2013 by a group of committed individuals from around the Lehigh Valley and founding partners: PBS39, Allentown Symphony Association and Baker Institute, and Carolyn Katwan.
TEDxLehighRiver events are self-organized, under the direction and guidance of the TEDxLehighRiver Committee. Members curate and prepare speakers for the TEDxLehighRiver stage.
Since its inception, TEDxLehighRiver has organized and presented large scale community events and more intimate, salon-style programs, bringing together innovative speakers to share original ideas and spark new thinking throughout the region.
